Tendulkar, Zaheer returns to ODI squad

Sachin Tendulkar returns to the one-day international cricket after he was named in the 17-member squad for the tri-series against Sri Lanka and Australia.

This will be Tendulkar and speedster Zaheer Khan’s first ODI outing after the 2011 World Cup final in April.

His inclusion means Tendulkar will have further opportunities to record a 100th ton if he is unable to achieve the landmark in the final Test against Australia in Adelaide later this month.

Pacer Praveen Kumar too is back in the fray after he was forced to miss the Test series due to a fractured rib. Irfan Pathan and Manoj Tiwary have retained their place from the last ODI they played against the West Indies in December.

In the spin department, Rahul Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja have been picked ahead of Harbhajan Singh.

In spite of his poor run in the series against West Indies, the selectors have picked Parthiv Patel as the reserve wicket-keeper leaving out Mumbai opener Ajinkya Rahane.

South paw Yuvraj Singh was not up for selection as he failed to fully recover from the non-malignant lung tumor.

ODI and T20 Squad: MS Dhoni (capt and wk), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Sachin Tendulkar, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary, Parthiv Patel (wk), Zaheer Khan, Umesh Yadav, Irfan Pathan, R Vinay Kumar, Praveen Kumar
